Of course you’ve got questions!

Over the years, I’ve had loads of questions from brides, grooms, mother-of-the-bride and whoever feels a bit confused...

On this page you’ll find a selection of questions that form part of the normal inquiries that I get. By no means is this a complete list, as I’m sure that I’ll encounter that strange aunt of yours that might throw a curveball my way!

If you’ve read through these and you still don’t have an answer to your question, please contact me, and I’ll be more than happy to answer you.

DJ / Sound Technician FAQs

Do we have to set up a play list for you?
You will need to fill out the pre-function form as requested when booking. On that form is a section where you need to fill out a few songs that you would like to hear throughout the night. I will pick up from those songs what type of music you like and compile a play list accordingly. I also judge the crowd and play songs that I know would bring people to the dance floor.

What type of music do you play?
This would greatly depend on what your taste in music is, remember, you are the client, and I play what you want to hear. This is why it is very important for me to get your pre-function form in time so that I can assess what type of music you like and set up a playlist accordingly.

Are you SAMRO registered?
Yes, we’re doing it the legal way.

Do you make use of an assistant?
When the set up is too large for one person to handle, then I do. Please confirm if I’ll be bringing along my assistant.

What is the standard equipment setup at weddings?
I make use of 3 EON JBL speakers (2 for reception, 1 for chapel), my laptop, mixer and a cordless mic. This set up is more than adequate to handle any function to the size of 1000 guests.

What if we require extra equipment?
Any extra equipment will be charged for, so let me know what you need extra, and I will charge will lay out your quote accordingly.

Do you include any lighting?
I include special effects lighting, nothing too clubby, but I believe that a mirror ball gives a beautiful effect on the dance floor, accompanied by some coloured shape lights. I found that people are normally very shy to dance, and by darkening the dance area and only having a few lights going, people are not put into the spot light too much and will feel more at ease.

What do you do when you don’t have a specific song?
I receive the pre-function form at least 3 weeks beforehand, and will go through it immediately to see what songs I don’t have, whereby I will inform you and request that you provide the song to me on disc or MP3 format (whichever is easiest). It rarely happens that I don’t have the specific song you’re looking for.

Do you do announcements etc?
If you request that I do some of the announcements, let me know before hand so that I can prepare ahead of time. Please avoid leaving it to the night of the wedding to tell me… I’m a quick thinker, but would like to be prepared on my slow days.

Do you take requests during the night?
You and your guests are more than welcome to put in their requests, whereby I will slot it into my playlist where I see fit. You cannot play a slow-dance song directly after a club song, you need to pace the songs so that the beat fits in, and that’s where I’ll use my professional judgment.

How do you handle difficult guests?
Granted that every wedding will have that nephew that believes that the only thing that’s cool is the rap song playing in his car, I believe in playing what you as my client requests. I will respect your guests, be polite, but in the end, you’re paying me to keep the people entertained on the dance floor, and I will do my best to achieve that.

What if we are having an outside wedding?
I request that if part of the wedding is taking place outside, that you do provide either umbrellas or gazebos for my equipment including my speakers. Any sun or rain damage is very harmful to the equipment. Also make sure that there’s a power outlet at least 10m from where I’m suppose to set up.
